Command Ops 2 - Free Scenario Available for Download - Korsun

"The Smela sector" January 25
Semi-historical scenario (It is semi-historical because it puts more emphasis on this sector of the Soviet offensive, than was historically given.  Troop placements are historical).

2 Days 8 hours and 1 minute

1400 Hrs Jan 22 1944
XI Corps General Bulletin:

Aerial reconaissance has revealed forward elements of the Soviet 52nd Army are moving into offensive positions in the forests north and northwest of Smela.

Soviet probes are expected from Bereznik to Smela to Raygorod over the next 48 hours.  Major rver crossings must be secured in anticipation of a likely Soviet advance.  Foward elements of the 57th Inf Div are ordered to occupy the city center of Smela and hold the main train station.

Soviet offensive elements are also moving into position opposite 389th Inf Div front to the south.  Road traffic observed by aerial reconaissance indicates a massive attack within this sector is imminent.  Soviet sappers have been observed sweeping the roads ahead of buildup for our mines.  Likely axis of attack is Burtki to Shpola.

The 676 IR 57 Inf Div is ordered to move into reserve in anticipation of this Soviet attack.

Elements of two Panzer divisions are also moving into position behind the 389th Infantry division in anticipation of relief operations.  Forward elements will be in position by 1100 hrs on Jan 25.

Favors Allies Reinf schedule: Releases a Russian Tank Corps to exploit any openings in German front line.

Note:  I did not bother creating a historical signature file at the end of the game, so if you play you will have Model congratulate you or order you shot as the Axis and Omar Bradley will do the same for the Russians.

My sourcing was primarily "The Korsun Pocket" by Niklas Zetterling with some information from "The Battle for Ukraine" by David Glantz.

I am working on a second scenario that covers the historical axis of attack by the Russians from Burtki to Shpola.

***You will need to use all the files in the folder.***

FINAL NOTE:  And maybe the most important one. Without the contribution of Miguel Ramirez (Bletchley Geek in forums), I would not have tackled this scenario as he started the base map and contributed the majority of the Estab file.  He wanted to release Korsun officially someday but Panther could never get it together and at this point I doubt they will, sadly.
